Bill Burns: Bird Radio opens Friday, June 1st at 7:00pm.
Double Fun Friday
(2 galleries, 2 receptions, 3 exhibitions, 1 night)

On Friday, June 1st, the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie and the Centre for Creative Arts will be hosting opening receptions on the same night. Make it an art gallery double-date! Be sure to visit both openings to make your evening extra special. We're just across the street and we love being neighbours!

The artist will be in attendance and we hope you'll visit us for the opening reception of Bill Burns: Bird Radio. Visit the Centre for Creative Arts on Friday night for the opening reception of two new exhibitions, "Life Through the Lens" Grande Prairie Photo Club, and Melanie Jenner: Welcoming Bliss.

Bill Burns: Bird Radio at the Art Gallery of Grande PrairieBill Burns: Bird RadioJune 1 - August 26, 2012
Opening reception: Friday, June 1, 2012. 7 - 10 pm
Location: The Art Gallery of Grande Prairie

Central to this multimedia installation is a chandelier-like device with jerry-rigged birdcalls surrounded by a selection of modern chairs. When the birdcalls are activated by visitors, the sound is transmitted outside of the gallery space to be heard in real-time on the radio. The birdcalls are two-fold reproductions: not only are they devices designed to mimic the sounds of birds that have been exiled from most of our urban environments, but they are also rebuilt versions of pre-existing devices.

We're Loving Our New Name
The Prairie Art Gallery has been renamed the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie in celebration of its major expansion into the restored 1929 Grande Prairie High School building.  The new name and logo were unveiled April 28, 2012 at the 32nd Annual Art Auction to a crowd of over 200 supporters. In the coming months, signs will be changed out, printed materials will be updated and the website will be renamed www.aggp.ca, although one of the most important changes will involve community support through social networking and word of mouth.
