Volunteers Needed

The Art Gallery of Grande Prairie is looking for volunteers to assist us at our Grand Opening. Volunteers are needed for both Friday, September 28th and Saturday, September 29th, 2012. Positions include selling refreshment tickets, assisting food stands, coat check, photographers, and models for our body painting demonstrations. For details, please review the descriptions listed below. We hope you’ll get involved and help the gallery create an exciting and enjoyable atmosphere by donating your time and talents.

Volunteer Listing

Volunteer Position: Ticket Seller for Bar & Food
Description/duties: The gallery will need volunteers at tables to sell tickets for the food and drink vendors at the event. Volunteers will be placed in pairs and remain seated at tables with a cash box.
Total number of shifts available: 16 (2 – 4 volunteers per shift – 2 per table)
Duration of Shift: Between 2.5 – 3 hours
Volunteers are able to sign up for multiple shifts on one or both days.

Volunteer Position: Food Vendor Assistants
Description/duties: Volunteers will be paired with a staff member from Esquires to assist in handing out food to our guests. Volunteers will not handle cash, but will receive the tickets sold at the event. The food vendor stations include hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy, lemonade and cold slushies.
Total number of shifts available: 25 (5 volunteers per shift – 1 per table)
Duration of Shift: Between 2.5 – 3 hours
Volunteers are able to sign up for multiple shifts on one or both days.

Volunteer Position: Coat Check
Description/duties: Volunteers are needed to assist with taking coats from guests attending the party and providing them with a ticket.
Total number of volunteers needed: 6 (3 volunteers per shift)

Volunteer Position: Assistant Bartender
Description/duties: Each volunteer will be paired with a pro-serve individual from Esquires. The bar staff will exchange drink tickets purchase by guests at the ticket table. No cash will be exchanged at the bar. Must be 18 years old or older.
Total number of volunteers needed: 4 (2 volunteers per shift)
Duration of Shift: Between 2.5 – 3 hours

Volunteer Position: Photographers
Description/duties: Local photographers are encouraged to join us with their cameras throughout the weekend of our grand opening. If they choose to provide photographs of the event to the gallery, they will be archived and may be used in future promotional media.

Volunteer Position: Art Activities Assistant
Description/duties: Volunteers are needed to assist with the art activities during our Family Festival on Saturday. Art activities include kite making and decorating, optical illusion colouring, sculpture making, response cards, and our community sculpture. Volunteers assisting during the morning and evening shifts will also help with setup and take-down.
Total number of shifts available: 18 (6 volunteers per shift – 2 per table)
Duration of Shift: 3 hours
Volunteers are able to sign up for multiple shifts.

Volunteer Position: Body Painting Models
Description/duties: Orientation before the event will be provided. Volunteers will have an area of their body painted by artist Shannon Fennell and are required to be at the event for the full day. When not in the process of being painted, volunteers will assist with line management for the kid’s face painting. They can advise people of how long the wait will be, age restrictions, making sure they’ve decided what they would like painted on their face, and when the line will be cut off at the end of the day. Painted volunteers will likely be photographed by staff and visitors. If needed, models will also be assisting art activity stations when not needed for body/face painting area.

Painting times can range between 10 mins – 2 hours, but models are required to be at the event for the full day. Lunch and breaks will be provided.

Grand Opening: Community Block Party

We hope you will join us for a special evening to celebrate the gallery and the newly restored building. All of our guests will enjoy drinks, food, a ribbon cutting ceremony in the new courtyard, and the evening’s musical guests the Chris McIntyre Band and Nathan Rogers. This event is free and open to the public.




Grand Opening: Family Festival

Our Family Festival will be a day to celebrate the grand opening of the newly restored building! This event is free and open to the public.

The Montrose Cultural Centre opened its doors in June 2009. It is home to the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie, the Grande Prairie Public Library and Esquires Coffee House. It is a place for the community to gather in support of the arts and literacy in Grande Prairie.
