50th Anniversary Mural Art Project

On the occasion of the City of Grande Prairie’s 50th Anniversary, the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie has formed partnerships with the Cool Aid Society, Sunrise House and the City of Grande Prairie’s Family and Community Support Services to invite a variety of community groups who serve youth at risk to participate in a youth group mural project.

In our role as creative facilitator for this project, the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie assists youth from these and other community groups in painting their individual 16″ x 20″ canvases on Thursdays between 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm at the Gallery’s temporary location, as well as provides outreach programming for some organizations for whose youth it is difficult to come to the Gallery.

In addition, the project was extended to ten youth from the community between the ages of 13 and 21 during an Open Studio Workshop on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at the Grande Prairie Regional College’s Studio B building between 1:00 – 4:00 pm. Depicting “Celebrating Youth Success – Past, Present & Future,” this mural will be unveiled at the Youth Festival in Muskoseepi Park on June 19, 2008 between 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm. It will travel to various public locations in Grande Prairie.
