Art in the Classroom Update

January 14, 2013

Dear Art in the Classroom Patrons,

Thank you for inviting our artists into your classroom over the past six years. Thanks to your support, the program has been a great success at meeting the needs of our community! Art in the Classroom began in January 2007 and was the ideal program to serve schools following the partial collapse of the Gallery building in March 2007. The program resumed in early May which was less than a month after materials were rescued from the collapsed building. Between April 2011 and March 2012 we were happy to share the art experience with 2,157 students in 106 classrooms, including the numerous programs we provided to the Grande Prairie and Sexsmith Home School Groups.

However, despite its resounding success, the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie is unfortunately no longer able to provide this popular outreach program. We regret that Art in the Classroom will not be available due to a variety of reasons, including that the Gallery’s new facility which opened in the Fall of 2012 poses more demands on our staff resources and also most of the artists are no longer available to provide this program.

Although this news is unfortunate, we enjoyed providing this service to you and are grateful for the opportunity. We hope we can be of service to you in the future and look forward to welcoming you and your group to explore the remarkable exhibitions in the Gallery’s newly restored building.
