ARTery is more interesting than a building collapse

Statistics prove it! Visits to the Gallery’s website during January 2008 (ARTery), are on pace to double the number of visits to the site in either March or April 2007 (building collapse). We knew that art was more important than spectacle, now if only we could convince national and international media. Although Alberta-based media have been very interested in the story of this triumphant exhibition by a gallery struggling through an historic disaster, with the exhibition made possible by the goodwill and efforts of numerous partners in the community, many of the news sources outside of Alberta that covered our disaster have not returned our calls about our recovery.  And this despite the fact that  14  – 23% of the visits to our site lately have been coming from outside of Canada. Oh well, you, our faithful visitor, have discovered what the media don’t want you to know: art galleries, like other groups and individuals, are more important to the world when they are successful than when they are suffering. And we intend to be more and more successful every day. Keep visiting this space for information on next year’s “ARTery,” among other interesting things. And don’t worry, daily website updates will continue on the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie’s exhibitions even after ARTery closes (with fantastic speakers and events on January 31).
