Screen to Studio: Digital Art Workshop – Saturday September 26th, 2026. 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm
Screens to Studio: Digital Art Workshop is a free youth digital art workshop presented as part of Alberta Culture Days. Designed primarily for beginners, the workshop will introduce participants to the fundamentals of digital art and design through techniques such as photobashing, layering, composition, digital effects, gradient maps, and drawing.
The techniques explored in the workshop can be applied across a variety of digital art programs, including Clip Studio Paint, Procreate, Photoshop, and Ibis Paint. To keep the workshop as accessible as possible, demonstrations will be presented using the free Ibis Paint app, with support available for participants using other digital art programs.
The workshop will focus on developing an artwork using digital techniques. A step-by-step demonstration will introduce the tools and processes before participants begin working independently with guidance from the facilitator.
Participants may choose to create a new digital artwork from start to finish, continue working on an existing piece, or bring a traditional sketch they would like to digitize. While the workshop is intended as an introduction for beginners, participants with previous digital art experience are also welcome and can receive guidance to further develop their skills.
The workshop’s examples, prompts, and atmosphere will be designed primarily for youth and young adults. Due to the complexity of the tools and techniques being introduced, participation will be limited to ages 14 and up.
The program will provide a welcoming, low-pressure studio environment where participants can work independently, connect with other young artists, experiment with digital tools, and work toward completing one digital artwork.
Content created and brought to this event should be suitable to share with an all ages group.
A limited number of tablets will be available for participants to use. If you have a tablet available to you please download the free IBIS Paint app and bring it with you.
