About the Artist

Carmen Haakstad

Since childhood, I have seen images in wood. As an artist, I try to enhance the image so others can enjoy the beauty that can be seen in many things if we just take the time to look. Life should not be about the art… it should be an art. And I have always said art should speak for itself.

While working in the public sector for the past 33 years, I have been fortunate to have had many art shows, both solo and with fellow artists. Each time I am filled with gratitude, as so many people have helped me along the way.

I would like to thank everyone involved in my most recent show, Domino IV, as well as Journey 2012—a 30 year artistic journey with fellow artist and lifelong friend Jim Stokes.

In the solitude of the studio I often think of the loss of loved ones. I try not to dwell on the loss, but instead focus on the joy they brought into my life and remind myself to cherish each moment that we get to be with family and friends. Our lives pass in a blink of an eye, so I ask myself, what is urgent? What is important? I’d like to thank my family and friends for helping me see what is important.
