Urban Vernacular

Urban Vernacular

June 15, 2013 - September 30, 2013

Laura St. Pierre is an artist whose main disciplines are sculpture and photography. She often incorporates both of these disciplines into her work as she endeavours to capture the essence of urban excess and waste.

This exhibition includes two photographs from an ongoing project titled Urban Vernacular. This sculptural/photographic project imagines a series of cobbled-together structures located on the fringes of urban space. Plastic bags, deli containers, and Styrofoam packaging – the detritus of consumer culture-all become construction materials, tenuously assembled and decorated by an unseen hand.
