Using previously printed or unprinted paper, participants will cut shapes and use them to find balance on 16-19 gauge wire. Learners will arrive and be given paper to cut into shapes using either shape-determined punch cutters (to make 3″ circles like those in the installation) or scissors. Shapes and sizes will come to affect how the mobile will hang and how we assess weight and balance. We will use easily bendable wire to place the paper shapes. Participants can expect to leave with a three to four (or more) level mobile.
Background: Lori is captivated by natural-air-moved objects and likes to share this intrigue with others in a kinetic mobile sculpture workshop to create Alexander Calder-style hanging mobiles, and has learned this technique through Paula Hartmann of Toronto.
