Halie Finney Artist Talk

Halie Finney is an artist displaying her illustrative works currently in our rotation of 2021 Travelling Exhibitions (TREX). Her exhibition called Through Those Trees uses ink and acrylic layered on transparent bases to create a colourful representation of generations of her Métis family’s stories, paired with her Lesser Slave Lake area upbringing.

Developing characters to reflect the narratives and memories of births, life, deaths, and the ever changing landscapes surrounding them. Finney uniquely brings these experiences together and represents them in a way that not only shows what it means to grow up in rural Alberta, but does so in such a way that is familiar to many different rural regions. Halie Finney’s works whimsically present like folklore pieces that allow any viewer to connect with and see their own stories within the work.

Travelling Exhibitions (TREX) NW has partnered with the Grande Prairie Regional College Fine Arts Department, to bring you a free live talk and Q&A with the accomplished artist on October 27th, 2021 via  Zoom at 11:30AM Mountain Time. Please e-mail Tanya Kinderwater: tkinderwater@gprc.ab.ca for access!
